Welcome to my official homepage at the University of Gothenburg and please accept my apologies for the boring and very conventional layout of this website. What can I say more than I think it reflects the aura of the organization I am working for more than me as a person. Anyway, since 1994, I hold the August Röhss Chair in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. The Chair was established in 1901 by a donation from a the wealthy merchant August Röhss. About me, the formalities are: I got my Ph.D. from the University of Lund in 1986 and between 1986 and 1995 I was assistant and then in 1992 become associate professor at the Department of Government at Uppsala University. I have served as visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation (1998/99), Cornell University (-91), Harvard University (-92), Collegium Budapest Center for Advanced Study (-03), the Swedish Center for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences (-93), and at the University of Washington in Seattle (-93). During the Spring semester -06, I was Visiting Professor at Harvard University. In 2004, I was awarded a six years research grant for “long term support for leading scholars” from the Swedish Science Council. Together with professor Sören Holmberg, I am in charge of the Quality of Government Institute at Göteborg University which was established in 2004. Most of my scholarly activities are concentrated to the QoG institute, please visit www.qog.pol.gu.se.  My research interests are the comparative study of the quality of government institutions, social capital and social dilemmas, and political corruption.
